It’s no surprise that staying in for a date night can be a lot more affordable than going out. Going out to dinner, to the movies, or and other outside activities can add up quickly and throw your budget off.

So, if you’re looking to save money on date night, staying in can be a great option.

Here are 12 cheap date ideas for staying in that won’t break the bank.

1. Have a Game Date Night

Nothing else spells out fun than gaming! Break out your favorite board or card games and have a competition. Or better yet add a twist, invite a few couple friends and have a couple’s gaming challenge.

2. Have a Movie Marathon

Pick out a theme and put together a list of movies that fit the theme. Then, pop some popcorn and settle in for a movie marathon.  Or you can pick your favorite shows and binge watch together.

Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu has some great movies and shows.

3. Have a Cooking Challenge

It’s not a date night without any type of food, right! Make it a fun night to cook together. Each person picks out a recipe and then you can take turns cooking for each other.  Maybe one cooks the dinner and the other the dessert!

4. Do a Puzzle

If you are looking for something more quiet and peace, trying a puzzle! Puzzles are a great way to spend quality time together. You can work on a puzzle over the course of multiple date nights or try to finish one in one night. 

Want to make it more challenging? Write down a few topics questions to ask each other when you are doing the puzzle together. It makes for some interesting conversation.

5. Have a Dance Party

Put on your favorite tunes and have a dance party. You can even turn it into a competition and have a dance-off. No one needs to judge your dancing skills – just have fun!

6. Play a Video Game

If you are into gaming pull out your video games and have some fun playing together.  Pick a fun game that you can set a challenge and see who can earn more points. The loser can cook dinner!

7. Have a Wine and Cheese Tasting

Choose a few different kinds of wines and cheeses, and then spend the evening tasting and rating them. 

8. Make a Scrapbook

Are you into crafts? Do you like looking over pictures and creating memories? Then get out your scrapbook supplies and create a scrapbook together. This can be a great way to document your time together, reminisce on good times and plan a new adventure together. 

9. Have a Sing-Off

Pick out some of your favorite songs and have a friendly sing-off. You can even make it a themed night and pick songs from specific genres. Let’s see who knows all the lyrics!

10. Go Stargazing

Bundle up and go outside to watch the stars. This can be a great way to connect while also getting some fresh air. 

11. Have a Spa Night

Treat yourselves to a spa night at home. Light some candles, give each other massages and relax in a bubble bath. 

12. Have a Trivia Night

Pull out your favorite trivia game or search online for some trivia questions. This can be a great way to test each other’s knowledge and have some fun.
