Depending on your situation it can even get discouraging at times – but don’t lose hope because there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and once you’re debt-free it truly feels like the handcuffs have been removed.

Remember that not everyone will understand your journey – and it’s okay. This journey is yours and yours alone.

Some people may even criticize you for doing what is right for yourself – and that’s okay too!  Just don’t let those people or comments distract you from your goal to be debt-free.

Keep focusing on the goal that you are trying to achieve. Only YOU can do this for yourself!

This article is to help you better understand how to stay motivated and stay on track, as well as, motivate you to keep going until you have reached your goal to be debt-free.

So, here are a few tips and ideas to help you see the bigger picture and stay motivated to become debt-free.

1. Eliminate The Distraction

It’s important to eliminate the distractions that are keeping you from reaching your goals.

You have to make sure to surround yourself with positive financial influences to help you stay focused with your new mindset. So grab some books, listen to podcasts, or read a few blogs that share success stories of debt freedom.

There is nothing more powerful than listening to other stories of people who went through the same journey as you.

Being exposed to other people’s journeys can inspire and motivate you during challenging times.

Listening to their successes and failures can also help you learn from their experiences, help you visualize your journey, and give you the motivation to keep going.

You don’t have to cut them off from your life but try to minimize this topic of conversation. Others usually don’t understand what you are trying to achieve or the vision that you have for yourself.

2. Surround Yourself With Positive Support

Eliminating distraction is not the only important aspect of your journey.  You also need to surround yourself with like-minded individuals.

Finding the right support can help you stay motivated and focused on helping you succeed.

You need to find yourself an accountability partner, someone who is also committed to paying off debt, and that you can check in with each other regularly.

Sharing your progress, your setbacks, and your goals can provide mutual support and encouragement.

There are also several groups you can join that will have like-minded individuals to help you stay on track and motivate you to keep going.

3. Visualize Your Debt-Free Future

Unless you can picture yourself living a debt-free life, the reality is – you may lose the motivation to keep going.

You need to have a strong will and be determined to keep yourself motivated until you reach the end of your financial goal.

Most people are visual so when they see something consistently it keeps them motivated to keep going.

Creating a vision board or writing down specific goals and aspirations may help you see what you can look forward to in the future.

Vision Boards

Vision boards are amazing free tools that can help you stay motivated and determined.

It is an amazing reminder to yourself that financial freedom is possible and it will give you a visual peace of mind that you’re working toward your goals.

Your vision board can include anything you want – pictures of vacation, items you may want to buy in the future, debt you want to pay off, the house of your dreams, words of encouragement, and goals you want to achieve.

Anything is possible with a vision board!

Digital Vision Boards

You can create a vision board out of anything you may already have at home.

But you can also create a free digital vision board in Canva that you can include as the background for your computer and phone.

Since we are always on the computer or our phones this can be your visual reminder to keep pushing your way out of debt.

Final Thoughts

Staying motivated can be challenging and at times extremely hard.  But with a little bit of discipline, you will achieve success in becoming debt-free.

Also, don’t forget, that changing your mindset can help you create the future you want and set you up for a great financial future.

Don’t underestimate the power of accountability with someone you know or even online with others – you can learn a lot from others and they can learn from you as well.

Keep going! You will get to the end of this journey and it will be amazing!
